AUSI Snorkel Diver

Role

The AUSI Snorkel Diver course is designed to train divers to snorkel dive in open water with direct access to the surface with a similarly qualified and experienced snorkel diver during daylight hours without the direct supervision of an instructor.
The level of certification is determined by the student's duck diving ability, ie Level I – at least 3 m (10ft), Level II – at least 6 m (20ft) and level III – 9m (30 ft).
Note: AUSI Junior Snorkel Divers must dive with a qualified parent or guardian or an AUSI Snorkel Diver Instructor or higher.

Prerequisites

Prior to participating on an AUSI Snorkel Diver course the participant must:

• Be at least 14 years of age (AUSI Snorkel Diver) or Be at least 10 years of age (AUSI Junior Snorkel Diver),
• Complete the AUSI Medical History Form, and
• Swim 200 metres (220 yds) unaided and tread water for 10 minutes.
  

Training

The course has three components:

• Theory - three presentations, lesson reviews and test,
• Practical Skills - one session which must be conducted in a pool or enclosed water, and
• Ocean Dives - four ocean modules to be conducted over a minimum of two ocean dives. All modules must be to at least one metre in depth and must consist of at least 20 minutes in water time. No dive should exceed nine metres (30 ft) in depth. One dive shall be to at least six metres (20 ft) and two dives shall be to at least three metres (10 ft). The total accumulated in water time shall be no less than 80 minutes.

• 1600 Ocean Modules 1 & 2 (Practical)

• 0800 Diving First Aid (Classroom)
• 1000 Ocean Modules 3 & 4 (Practical)
• 1200 Lunch
• 1300 Theory review (Classroom)
• 1500 Theory Test (Classroom)
• 1600 Debrief
