AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor

Level I Scuba Instructor (Assistant Scuba Instructor)

The AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor (Assistant Scuba Instructor) Course is designed to introduce the prospective instructor to the key areas of diver training, namely:
  • Classroom Presentation,
  • Practical Skills Training, and
  • Ocean Training Dives.
Note:
  • Divers who wish to begin a career in recreational scuba diving can partake in the AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor course however, they can only be certified as an AUSI Scuba Assistant until all the certification requirements for AUSI level I Scuba Instructor heave been completed.
  • An AUSI Scuba Assistants can only assist up to the level of their training ie an AUSI Level II Scuba Diver/Scuba Assistant cannot assist at AUSI Level III until they are certified as an AUSI Level III Scuba Diver and cannot assist at AUSI Level IV until having they are certified as an AUSI Level IV Scuba Diver.

Prerequisites

To participate on the AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor course the candidate :
  • Be at least 16 years of age,
  • Be medically fit to scuba dive, and
  • Be a certified AUSI Level II Scuba Diver (Open Water) or approved equivalent.

Certification Requirements

Before applying to be certified as an AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor the candidate must::
  • Be at least 18 years of age,
  • Be a certified AUSI Level VI Professional or approved equivalent
  • Have completed all aspects of the AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor Training Program including appropriate assessments
  • Have completed all internship requirements,
  • Have logged at least 60 scuba dives in varying ,
  • Have a current diving medical,
  • Have a current work place first aid certificate or approved equivalent,
  • Have a current CPR certificate or approved equivalent, and
  • Have a current oxygen provider certificate or approved equivalent.
Note: Candidates that do not meet the AUSI Level I scuba Instructor certification requirements and have completed the course will be awarded the AUSI Scuba Assistant award.

Training

The training involves the following :
  • Instructor Development Lectures, and
  • Candidate presentations on aspects of the AUSI Level I & Level II Scuba Diver course.

Assessment

Final assessment of an AUSI Level I Scuba Instructor will be conducted by an AUSI Instructor Trainer and the final outcome will be based on results received in the following areas :
  • Classroom Presentations,
  • Practical Skills Training,
  • Ocean Training Dives, and
  • Internship, if not already done as part of an AUSI Level VI Professional program.

  15:00 Practical Skill Presentations (Two per candidate)
Sunday 08:00 Theory – Ocean Training Dives
10:00 Practical Dive Leaderships (Group Exercise)
  12:00 Lunch
  13:00 Classroom Presentations (Two per candidate)
15:00 Practical Training Session 3: Field Repairs and Cylinder Filling
  17:00 De-Brief
