Level II Scuba Diver (International Open Water)

The AUSI Level II Scuba Diver (International Open Water) course is designed to train divers to dive to 18 metres (60 ft) in open water that has direct vertical access to the surface with a similarly qualified and experienced scuba diver during daylight hours without the direct supervision of an instructor.

Prerequisites

Prior to participating on an AUSI Level II Scuba Diver course the participant must:

• Be at least 15 years of age, (12 years of age for AUSI Junior Scuba Diver),
• Be medically fit to scuba dive (In Australia a medical certificate to AS4005.1 is required),
• Swim 200 metres (220 yds) unaided and tread water for 10 minutes

Training

The course has three components:

• Theory - four presentations, lesson reviews and test,
• Practical Skills - three sessions plus one optional session all of which must be conducted in a pool or enclosed water, and
• Ocean Dives - four ocean dives plus two optional dives.
  • Each dive must be at least 20 minutes in duration to a depth no less than four metres (15 ft). Two dives shall be at least nine metres (30 ft) of which one must be at least 15 metres (50 ft). None of the dives shall exceed 18 metres (60 ft). Minimum accumulated bottom time shall be no less than 120 minutes.
