Associated Underwater Scuba Instructors (AUSI) was formed in 1994 with the goal to provide the diving industry with affordable quality education support, ensuing that AUSI trainee divers receive the highest quality diver eduction. In line with this goal, AUSI’s Open Licence System offers free visitor access to the AUSI Snorkel and Scuba Training Systems. Registered instructors and other diving professionals are eligible for free on-line cross overs as well asaccess to AUSI teaching support products.
AUSI’s unique open–licence approach is a dynamic ever-evolving system that not only welcomes input from its users but acts on it to improve the system.

Since its formation AUSI has achieved and set many milestones:
- The introduction of a logically built scuba training system:
Level I to Level VI Scuba Certification - Expansion of pre-entry scuba training (ie pre-Open Water) by offering Scuba Experience, Scuba Adventure and AUSI Level I Scuba
- The AUSI Scuba Learning Modules – a continuous learning system for scuba training consisting of 30 sequential theory modules
- Proper instructor development ie recognition of experience by offering instruction certification from Level I to Level VI
- In-house certification
- The QED Table - The World's first short-form decompression table
- E-Dive College – The Word's first on-line Open Water classroom
- Open Scuba independence – Dive schools and associations can develop their own image and issue their own home branded certification cards
- The recognition and introduction of standards and teaching guidelines for Snorkel Swimming – another World first
